I thought following her at a distance for the past two years was hard, but I had no clue what hard was until she started working here.

At first, I thought about having her fired since this was the place our family and the Compano's opened together as a front, but then I got a closer look at her one night and I was hooked. Here, I was able to witness her life in ways I hadn't in a long time. I got to see her up close. I could see her expressions, feel her moods, and hear more intimate conversations.

I planned on staying hidden at first. I didn't have to make appearances in this part of the bar if I didn't want to. I could have stayed in VIP upstairs or appointed someone else to oversee it all, and I sincerely thought about it…until I started seeing the Compano brothers making appearances. There was no way in hell I was going to leave her here with them alone.

Business with them the past two years had been disorganized shall we say. They've been messy, irresponsible, and rash. I still don't think it was the right move for us, and I've voiced that opinion often with my father, but we're in too deep now. And the only way out would be an all-out war.

All the more reason I needed to be here. I needed to be present for anything at any time. And I have been for months.

But just like that summer, being close to her made me weaker and weaker. Just like before…I had plans of keeping away, but something about her draws me in every time. I had to see. I had to try. I had to see if she still hated me.

And now that I know she does, I’ll go back into the darkness.

I will set her free again. But I will never leave.

I find a table on the second floor overlooking the first and I have a line of sight straight to her. My body is still buzzing from the break in the barrier between us and I drum my fingers into the wood high top as if it will help release the tension.

She’s moving quickly, a natural on a busy night and her smile creeps up often making me wish it was for me. But it never will be.

She pulls her phone out of her back pocket and turns, hiding in the corner to check it.

My phone lights up with the same notification and I see what she sees.

She downloaded Tinder earlier today which made me drive my fist into a wall by the way, and it looks like she got a match.

What the hell is she doing checking a match at work?

I bite my lip with fury as I scroll the profile because…yes…I have the sign-in information as well.

Pretty little firefly…she has always underestimated me.

It wasn't hard to break into this part of her life. Once I did, I kicked myself for not doing it sooner.
